After filling an order of a dozen very popular patterns one evening, the Meko Special and Borski Fur Shrimp, I decided to try a hybridized pattern combining the best atributes of both flies.

The mekorski combines the barred tail and hackled body of the Borski Fur Shrimp and the dubbed body and pale pink thread of the Meko Special.
I do not use krystal flash on this pattern but incorporate a softer and more supple flash material (angel hair) both in the dubbing and the tail section of this pattern.
The dubbing is home made combining dyed rabbit fur, white antron dubbing, White SLF dubbing additive, under "fur" of the craft fur which is used for the tail material, and hanks of pearl green angel hair. I use a coffee grinder to mix it all up.
| Hook | Mustad 34007 size 8,6,4 |
| Thread | Pink UNI-Thread 3/0 |
| Tail | Craft Fur Mixed With Pearl Green Angel Hair Barred With Prismacolor PM-88 Dark Brown |
| Body | Blended Dubbing with Antron/SLF/Angel Hair |
| Eyes | 1/8" Stainless Steel Bead Chain Eyes |
| Hackle | Soft Ginger, Tan, Cream or Brown |
NOTE: My customers and friends have had great success with this pattern all over the Bahamas, in the Yucatan, and on the Florida Keys. The favorite color/size combination is the all tan version in size 6.
I attribute the success of this fly to the stealthy splash down which makes it a great fly for many scenarios and to the soft flash (angel hair) used to make the pattern. Trust me this pattern looks great in the water! Tie up a dozen...you will not be dissappointed!
I found that the craft fur was the hardest material to come up with for this pattern. I found a great material and color that you can not find in any fly shop. If you are interested shoot me an email and I can get some to you...
Vary the colors and experiment!
Tying Instructions
Step 1 First make a thread base back to the barb on the hook bring back to front and tie in bead chain eyes using criss cross technique.
Step 2 Cut a section of tan craft fur, comb out the under fur, mix in some pearl angel hair. Tie this in starting just behind the eyes. Wrap back to hook barb. Bar the tail with brown marker. Hint: tying the craft fur in just behind the eyes will give your fly a more symmetrical look. The tail should be about the same length as the hook.
Step 3 Tie in saddle hackle. I really like ginger grizzly saddle hackle for this pattern, however any soft hackle will do.
Step 4 Wax your thread and dub some tan dubbing onto your thread. I make up my own dubbing for this pattern see recipe above.
Step 5 Wrap dubbing forward, criss cross at eyes.
Step 6 Palmer the hackle forward, make sure the shiny side is facing forward while wrapping. This will position the hackles so they are palmered back, in the fashion of a wet fly.
Step 7 Finish the head, but don't put head cement on yet!
Step 8 Trim the bottom of the fly then continue to pick dubbing with dubbing comb until satisfied with the shape. Lastly, cement the head.
